Robert
Robert Pheifer Founder/ President (1950 - 1994)
Robert started Pheifer Brothers Construction with his brother Alan as a partnership in 1950 before incorporating in 1960. While Al and Bob may have been the first Pheifers to build bridges in Wisconsin, their father Leonard had been constructing roads and bridges throughout Canada and Alaska an entire generation before.Working in the office as President, Robert was instrumental in the operations of Pheifer Brothers from 1950 until his retirement in 1997. During those years Bob worked in many trades and would often be found operating equipment including dozers, loaders, and cranes. Bob has been active in the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC of Wisconsin) and served for some time as the Chairman of their board of directors. In addition to the bridge business, Bob and Al also developed much land in the Town of With his wife Laverne, Bob has: four (4) children , eight (8) grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. Although no longer working for Pheifer, one might find Bob and Laverne farm in Waupaca, or taking care of his property in the Town of Menasha along CTH CB. His hard work, dedication, faith, and demeanor serve as an ambition for many to this day. With his wife Patricia, Alan has: five (5) sons , thirteen (13) grandchildren, and four (4) great grandchildren. Although no longer working for Pheifer, one might find Al and Pat at their small cottage on the chain o’ lakes, or working on eradicating invasive species or planting acorns on their tree farm in Waupaca. Mike Pheifer started working around the shop facility cleaning and taking apart forms Mike Pheifer started working around the shop facility cleaning and taking apart forms at the age of twelve. After graduating from Neenah High School in 1975 Mike began to work on bridge projects with his father Al during the summer months and spent the winters working with his uncle, Bob, in the Office bidding projects and working with bonding companies, insurance providers, and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) personal to secure work for the next season. In 2011 Mike became one of the first merit-shop operators in Wisconsin to secure Certified Crane Operator (CCO) status on lattice boom crawler cranes as recognized and accredited by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO).Mike and his son Ryan have been officiating sporting events for the WIAA since 1999 and were honored to officiate their first State Tournament in 2010. They look forward to working with teachers, coaches, and student athletes for many years to come. Mike has served on several boards of directors including the Associated Builders and Contractors and Lakeview credit Union based in Neenah, WI. After managing the company in a traditional sense as President for many years, Mike decided to return to the areas he most enjoyed- the field. To this day, Mike continues to serve as President, working the majority of his time in the field.With his wife Mona, Mike has three adult children and three young grandchildren. When Mike is not out on a jobsite he can be found managing prairies and working on his property in the town of Clayton, or being worn out by his grandchildren.

In 1981 Mike's older brother Dave joined the company after graduating from Marquette University and subsequently passing the Wisconsin Professional Engineering Exam. Dave works in the field and handles all engineering and diving functions for Company to this day. In 1994 Robert Pheifer retired and Mike was elected President and Dave started to buy into the company. Dave was elected Vice-President and Secretary in 1996. In 1997 Mike and Dave's father Alan retired leaving them as equal owners.Dave enjoys traveling the world as a dive master/ photographer and can probably be found at a local dive shop or in a pool working with new divers in his free time.Dave has three sons- Jason, Shawn, and Justin- and enjoys volunteering for the Boys' and Girls' Brigade of Neenah. Dave has been on their board of directs for several years and currently serves as Secretary of the board.

Ryan started working in the shop as his father Mike had at the age of twelve and after graduating from high school began working in the field full-time. Ryan successfully completed: a four -year Carpentry Apprenticeship Program through the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) and the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), a Bachelor of Science Degree in Legal Studies, and is currently pursuing a law degree from UW Madison. He continues to work on his contract, estimating, dispute resolution, and project management duties full-time during his studies and was elected Secretary of the Corporation in January of 2010.In 2011 Ryan became one of the first merit-shop operators in Wisconsin to secure Certified Crane Operator (CCO) status on lattice boom crawler cranes as recognized and accredited by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO).Ryan and Mike have been officiating sporting events for the WIAA since 1999 and were honored to officiate their first State Tournament in 2010. They look forward to working with teachers, coaches, and student athletes for many years to come. With his wife Amber, Ryan has two sons- Mason and AJ- and a daughter- Raegann. When not working or studying, Ryan can usually be found playing around his young children, or on a nice fall day out in the field pursuing pheasants with his two vizslas or up in a tree waiting out that elusive whitetail.

After working for another bridge contractor for five (5) years, Scott started with Pheifer in 1992. Hired as a field laborer Scott completed the Carpentry Apprenticeship program through the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development and the Associated Builders and Contractors and was quickly promoted to foreman. As foreman Scott constructed difficult projects such as the marina in Baileys Harbor and the Lake Street Bridge over Interstate Highway 41 in Neenah. In 2001 Scot was promoted to his current position of Supervisor. Scott works with Ryan to coordinate field personnel and activities while also estimating projects and negotiating with WisDOT Engineers.In his limited free time Scott can often be found on his land in Phelps or in his boat chasing the elusive Musky.

Mike continues the Gehl family tradition of building bridges in Wisconsin as his uncle, father, and several cousins have for several different contrators. Returning to Wisconsin after working for several years in the construction industry in Georgia Mike was hired as a laborer, completed the carpentor apprenticeship, and was subsequently promoted foreman. Mike has been awarded the WisDOT structure of the year twice in his career with Pheifer and he continues to produce high qualtiy projects on time and ahead of budget.When not working at Pheifer, Mike enjoys spending time with his family and working with horses on his small family farm.

Tim joined Pheifer as a high school co-op student in our shop durring his senior year. After completeing that program Tim joined our team full time and completed the carpenter apprenticeship program through the Department of workforce Developement (DWD) and the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC). One of Tim's projects, Lake Geneva, was awarded the project of distincsion by ABC for 2010. Tim and Pheifer worked as subcontractors on that project for Reesman excavating and the city of Lake Geneva. In 2011 Tim became one of the first merit-shop operators in Wisconsin to secure Certified Crane Operator (CCO) status on lattice boom crawler cranes as recognized and accredited by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO).Tim has a long and bright future ahead of him at Pheifer and in the bridge business.

An avid Miami Dolphins fan, Gary joined our team full time and completed the carpenter apprenticeship program through the Department of workforce Development (DWD) and the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC). Gary has worked in the field, managed our shop facility, and even worked for another contractor for a couple of years before rejoining Pheifer as foremen in 2009.Gary's motor runs nonstop, constantly shows a positive attitude, and his dedication to bridge construction is seldom matched.

Second only to Mike in years of service, Rick has been with Pheifer since 1978. Rick not only keeps all of Pheifer’ s equipment in top shape, but also serves as our finishing machine operator on all deck pours. Without Rick’s experience and dedication, jobsite mobilizations and general flow would not happen as seamlessly as they appear to when he is in charge. In 2011 Rick became one of the first merit-shop operators in Wisconsin to secure Certified Crane Operator (CCO) status on lattice boom crawler cranes as recognized and accredited by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO).With his wife, Rick has several adult children including a son Adam who is currently a carpenter apprentice for Pheifer.

Lori and her husband Dewayne (D-man) were teammates with Mike and Mona Pheifer for many seasons of volleyball athletics. Lori still has the plaques- and 1980’s & 1990’s photos- to prove their ten season winning streak is no joke. After working for many years as the office manager for a local car dealership, Hesser Olds, Lori joined Pheifer in the same position. Lori handles all accounts receivable and payable, insurance and 401k negotiations, as well as helps Ryan and Scott complete job tracking duties and complete contract finalization. When not working for Pheifer, Lori can either be found on the links or avoiding fallen trees kayaking down the nearest waterway.
Mona

Mona began her career in permitting for the Neenah based JJ Keller and Associates before deciding to focus on raising her three children in the early 1980's to mid-1990's. During that time Mona and her husband Mike were actively involved in coaching youth volleyball throughout the Fox Valley. After her children became more self-sufficient Mona decided to join Pheifer on a part time basis. Mona works on both accounts payable items as well as ensuring that all subcontracts are delivered and returned in a timely manner. With her husband Mike, Mona has three adult children- Ryan, Ashley, and Tonya- and three young grandchildren- Mason, AJ, and Raegann.In the summer Mona can often be found keeping her lawn in tip top shape or feeding the squirrels and deer with her grandchildren.

2010 Structure of the Year

Constructed by Alan Pheifer in the early 1970's this was the first structure for which Pheifer was awarded the WisDOT structure of the year award and one of the first structures Pheifer Brothers constructed.Located on STH 21 over the Fox River in the city of Omro, Winnebago County this structure incorporated seven spans of pre-stressed girders, cast in place substructures deck and parapets and an aluminum pipe railing. To complete construction Al built a temporary tramway alongside the new structure. In addition to the main bridge, Al also completed the pedestrian bridge on the substructure of the existing bridge and incorporated the steel arc trusses to allow pedestrian traffic onto the islands as well as safely travel from one bank of the Fox River to the other.
Constructed by Mike Gehl in the fall of 2010 this was the third structure for which Pheifer was awarded the WisDOT structure of the year award and the second for Mike specifically. Located on Grove Street in the city of Fond du Lac this structure incorporated a two span slab deck and cast in place parapets with a decorative steel railing. The parapets and wings incorporated stone form liner to mimic the fieldstone found in the area. Pheifer performed the concrete work while United Painting was responsible for the painting and staining.
Constructed by Mike Gehl in the summer of 2001 this was the second structure for which Pheifer was awarded the WisDOT structure of the year award and the first for Mike. Located on Sanders Road over the Crystal River in the town of Rural, Waupaca County this structure incorporated a single span of pre-stressed girders and "F-rail" on cast in place abutments and deck.
